Dan's Summer Break

June 26th, 2013

Dan's summer break. This was the only Tuesday when I would not be out of town, so Dan and I decided to go camping.  We drove up to the Pinal Mountain near Globe.  We decided that instead of staying at the cabin, we would actually camp and sleep in a tent.  We drove to the campsite and tried to find a good place.  Mind you, we were the ONLY ones on the entire mountain. NO  ONE was up there.  Well, me being the wise guy that I am, told Dan that he could drive his care up through the bushes to the road.  Silly me, I think my corolla is a truck.  Nope, it isn't.  We got stuck in the dirt with wheels spinning.  We dug and dug.  Finally, we walked up the road to the cabin and found something that would make digging easier.  We finally got unstuck and moved to a different campsite.  This only took 45 minutes.
Now, this added to our pain, because Dan's stomach was having real issues that day.  We had to stop 4 times between Mesa and Globe so he could go to the bathroom.  So, it had been a very long day.
Finally, we set up camp, enjoyed a game of Ticket to Ride, and even took the roof of the tent so we could see the stars.  We saw a fabulous sunset and enjoyed time together.  The only con was that due to the heat, there were bugs and flies everywhere.

The next morning, Dan woke up with a terrible toothache and we had to go straight home so he could get to the dentist.
Dan's summer break lasted from 3pm to 7am the next morning.  Hopefully, next summer will be better :)

Summer Time= Cabin time

Summer Time- May/July 2013

Poor Dan had to work all summer long.  But me...nope.  So, unfortunately for Dan, but fortunately for me, I got to vacation all summer long.

Memorial Day, head up to the cabin with some of our friends in our ward.  Jose and Lynette Nunez.  It was just the 3 adults and they have two little kids.  It was nice and relaxing, plus perfect weather.
I went back up to the cabin for Labor Day with my ole high school friend Hattie and her family.  It was crazy!  When we got up there, there were TONS of bats in the window between the window and covering.  We had an up close bat experience.  Then, because I am NOT brave, Hattie, opened the windows and let them all out.  YUCK!

We had fun with all her kids and just girl talking,  It had been a while :)

Levi's graduation

May 2012
My super smart brother, Levi graduated from UNO (University of Nebraska) with an BS in Engineering.  I was able to fly up there and visit everyone.  :)  So proud of Levi!
LanaMarie's children, especially Barrett, my nephew were so excited for me to come and visit.  I got in really late, but apparently they didn't want to go to bed and stayed up really late, looking out the window, waiting for Aunt "Millia" to come.  I stayed at LanaMarie's house and the little guys loved it.  Barrett was so happy.  I always call and face time with Barrett so he at least knows my voice.  I love that little guy!

Of course since I was in Nebraska, it was cold, windy and raining.  Really ?!?  We all went to Levi's graduation.  Barrett and Wesson were just watching in the window looking out at the graduates for find Levi.  They even got a special wave from him before he walked the line.

It was a great weekend and a fun time to celebrate. :)

Babysitting

May 2013
In May, a dear friend of ours, was remarried.  They were going to Hawaii for a honeymoon and asked if we could watch their children for a WHOLE week while they were gone.  We figured it would be good practice for when we either have children, adopt or fosters.

We had a blast.  All the kids had red hair, so it looked like we were really their parents. Hahaha.
But, they especially loved Dan.  After the week, we were exhausted, but as we sat down to watch TV Friday evening, we admitted that we missed them.  There was so much peace and quiet now.

We love that family dearly.  It was so fun.  There was a 3, 5, and 8 year old.  The little one still calls me, "Sister Moore's."

Home owners...house work is a must

March-May 2013

Being a homeowner means you are constantly trying to make your home better.  Also, you are constantly fixing things.  Actually, I love it.  I am addicted to work.  My husband says I need to relax more...we will see.  Here are some things that we have been doing to "fix" up the house.

We pulled out the hedges under the windows...eventually, we will plant roses out there.

Dug trenches for a new sprinkler system.

I primed the back porch and had home depot reseal the windows in the back.  Someday, our house will look nice :)

Poco a poco.

Dan's new job--classified

March 2013

Starting in January, Dan was blessed to get a new job.  It's classified.  No, he is not in the armed forces, but if bad people (mainly mafia) found out what he did, he could be in danger.  Therefore, I am not allowed to post pictures of his graduation.

His new job required him to do a 3 month boot camp.  He would leave at 4am in the morning and get home at 5:30pm at night.  Most of the time he could barely walk because he was so sore from 2 hours of cross fit every day.  He worked out a lot and managed to get 18 college credits for the educational part of his job.

Poor Dan, add on top of this, his stomach is still very sick.  He looked like death.  Very skeletal and death like.  Lots of prayers got him through.

So, I am proud of my husband for working so hard to get this new job.  It was definitely out of his comfort zone.  Now, he has full benefits, pretty good per hour pay, and tuition reimbursement.  This will allow him to work nights while going to school during the day, to reach his final goal of being a nurse.

Also, he is now EMT certified, nationally and AZ :)  I love that His future profession will be in helping people.  He is getting excited.  He really misses being a corpsman in the NAVY.

We are on our way...One small step forward, and after a while, you look back and those small steps added up.

Spring break or Snow break?

March 8th, 2013

It is Friday, we are ready to start Spring Break.  The students are crazy, I am crazy plus it's a full moon.  We are all READY for a break.  So ...because we are all so ready for a break, what happens?  It's a raining day, not only raining, POURING!  It starts to rain so hard that it is leaking through the school roof at the entrance of my classroom.  We had to go around 2 trash cans to get into the door.

Then, at 2:45pm, right when we are lining up the bus riders, what happens?  BOOM!  CRASH!  BOOM!  All hail breaks loose.  Now, not one person can go outside.  It's hailing so bad that the walkers can't go home, the bus riders can't get on the bus and the parent pickups just have to wait.

The best part of the day was went my student said, "Mrs. Moore, this should have been called a snow break, not a spring break."  All I could do was laugh and agree with him.

At 3:35, the last student was picked up.  UHHHH.  We were all sooo tired!  Then the principal called a mandatory meeting.  Will this ever end?  I want spring break!

Brady Boy!!!

February
My sister, Charisse, gave me the most wonderful experience ever!  I was allowed to be with her when she delivered her first baby.  It was the sweetest moment.  How are earth does women do this time after time?  My sister is brave and so strong.  I can't imagine how I would handle that.

Dan and I have been trying to have a baby for 2 years, since we got married.  Between my body problems and Dan's stomach problems, we have not have much luck.  I am trying to stay positive, but with my age, God willing it will happen someday.  Anyways, since I might never have a chance to give birth, it was so special that my sister let me experience vicariously through her.  The miracle of birth.  WOW!  I am so glad that I was able to help my sister out and watch her give birth to Brady.

Ready to pop!
So here is MY side of the story.  In January, Charisse's husband was able to get a job in Omaha, NE.  He needed to start working as soon as possible so that he could have insurance for the baby.  So, Charisse, very pregnant, packed up the house here in Mesa, and got ready for the baby.  The last week or so before she have the baby, she stayed at our house.  I loved having her.  At about 11pm, she started having back contractions, she called Mom and walked around.  Mom immediately began looking for the earliest flight out of omaha for Will to get one.  They found one and he was set to arrive at 8:00 am.  At 3am, mom said it was time to wake me up :)  We headed to the hospital and got checked in.  At 4am, nurses said Charisse was dilated to a 6.  I was frantically trying to get my lesson plans in and calling a substitute for my class.  We called Irving to pick Will up from the airport.  Charisse managed to bypass all the other woman in labor, even those that had come in earlier.
My sister is a ROCKSTAR....as the contractions gradually got harder, she would go quiet, grab my hand tightly and go to her marathon training in her mind.  In a way it was funny cause she couldn't blame me for doing this to her, and when she squeezed my hand, I squeezed  back.  We both got into a groove, and waiting patiently for the doctor and Will.  At about 6:30, she was dilated to a 8.  The doctor said she would be having it soon.  Did she want to wait for Will?  Charisse said, "As much as I love my husband, NO!  Get this baby out."  She didn't get an epidural or anything.  As she was progressing, the doctor came to check on things.  Finally it was time to PUSH. I grabbed her hand and boy did it look painful.  The doctor told me to help hold her leg and so I did.  Will called saying he was about 10 mins. away....The doctor said, " Looks like the husband will get here the same time that the baby will..."  I just urgently shouted, "Hurry, the baby is coming...NOW!  Just walk in ..the nurses are waiting for you."  I threw the phone down and went back to help Charisse.  She was in the ZONE, painful ZONE and pushing now.  Then...out comes the baby...I describe it like a baby calf coming out.  Since I have had no other experiences, (not even with cats or dogs) only cows, that's what I compare it too.  The doctor asked if I wanted to cut the umbilical cord, so I did.  As soon as I did, Will literally walked in.  I think he planned that, especially since he didn't want to be there for the birth.  ;)  (Though Charisse told Will no excused for next time.)

It's a miracle that a baby grows in your stomach and then, out comes a baby.  it as bloody, sticky, but still beautiful.  Brady was a handsome little baby and I was privileged to experience his birth.  Thank you Charisse!

Little no neck, and no name nephew.
A few weeks later, Charisse took my Brady to NE.  This was a really hard move for me.  Will and Charisse were our go-to couple.  We hung out all the time, played games on Sunday and hung out.  I am really missing them!  I took the day off from school to pack up the moving truck.  It's nice to know at least I have one talent. I CAN PACK.  Thanks to past jobs (EVDS and FED EX) and can pack up most anything.  nice, neat and tight!  I even found out that only a couple things broke.  Pretty good since it was moved cross country, and moved there several times.

Charisse is still my sister, but I have lost a good friend, good brother in law and cute nephew in this move.  I need to fly out and see them ;)

He has a name now!!!  BRADY!

Relaxing in Sedona

Finally, I make it into 2013...so I'm a little behind....

Jan. 2013-President's Day Weekend

Dan was starting his new job this month so we decided to take one last break before he would be super busy.  We asked all our friends to come, and only my cousin Abby decided she would come.  We thought that she would feel left out, but in reality, Dan was the odd man out.  Abby and I used to be neighbors, so we talked like old times.  We used some of our RCI points and stayed at the Sedona Pines Resort.  It used to be a mobil home park, but they changed into a resort.  There was a beautiful creek running through the property however, the apartments were single wide trailers.  Kind of hard getting used to the narrow-ness, but it was still beautiful and clean.
Dan spent time relaxing and Abby and I explored downtown Sedona.  We took a drive up to Flagstaff  and visited Lowell Observatory.  It was my first time!  Dan loves space, so he REALLY enjoyed it.  Then we headed over and visited my cousins, Ryan and his wife.  We enjoyed playing some board games.
Lowell Observatory, checking out a planet
Huge telescope!
Who doesn't want Chocolate?
The next day we took a drive through Oak Creek Canyon.  This was the first time driving through..(that I remember).  WOW!  BREATHTAKING!  We played in the snow and of course, had to take some panoramic pictures of the view.
Spending the time away from the valley was so nice and relaxing.  We love using our RCI points to take vacations.  Dan says I work all the time so I need to slow down and relax.  The only time I seem to do that is when I am away from home on vacation. :)

Yep, Look who's pushing me!

Beautiful view

Groupon Date...New Years Eve

NEW YEAR'S EVE, 2012

Ever gone on a groupon date?

Dan and I decided to try it out.

1.  Buy groupons that look cool to try out or eat.
2.  Spend the evening using them, it really saves money.

We went out to the movies at Studio Grill, where they serve you dinner in your seat and the movie seat is a recliner chair.
Then we went on to enjoy some Gelato,  YUMMY!
Finally, we finished our date by chaperoning the Quad Stake dance.  Dan's favorite thing ever!!!! (Especially since he hates dances of all sorts.)
Direct quote, " I have to what?!?  I didn't even go to those dances when I was a teenager!"
So glad that my husband supports me and my calling :)

Christmas Break the TRYON way!

Christmas Eve 2012

I love my FAMILY!!!!  That is all I can say.  My parents flew into town for a couple of weeks around Christmas.  My dad offered to help us build a porch.  We started on Christmas Eve, digging foundations.  Within 2 days, we had the porch built.  Dad is a pro!  Mom, Dan and I were his "gophers"  Go for this...  Dan's brother Nate, helped for a couple of hours and my brother, Irving came for a day and helped.  Without everyone's help, ESPECIALLY my dad's, it would not have be done so well or quickly.  Now, we have a nice porch, still need to paint it...and it keeps the sun from heating up our family room.
I am so glad that I can always count on my family to help me.  I hope they feel the same about me.  So...since all dad likes to do is work hard...that is what we did.

Cornville, AZ, where's that?

  Cornville, AZ  Oct. Break 2012

Dan and I decided to take a break from life and head on up to Cornville, AZ.  Until a few years ago, I had never even heard of Cornville.  Now I know that it is close to Cottonwood, (that I have heard of).  We persuaded my sister, Charisse and her her husband Will to come with us.  The weather was beautiful.  A storm had just left that area fresh and crisp.
The sun will come out!

Beautiful Day!

Smile for a pic.

Sisters!

When Dan finally arrived the next morning, we decided to explore the unknown and historic parts of the state that Charisse and I were not familiar with.  We headed up to Jerome, AZ (which used to be a mining town) that it nestled high up on the edge of the mountain. We some some very old stuff.  Walked the streets and enjoyed the company.

The next day, on our way back into town, we headed to visit OUT OF AFRICA wildlife park.  THE BEST ZOO EVER.  Look what we got to do?

First, we rode on this cool safari ride that took us into an area where all the animals roomed free.  They came up to the bus and we even could pet them.  I feed the giraffe a carrot, but the driver gave it a kiss.  EWWWW!

Yep, that's my hand!
EWWW!  A kiss!
never been this close...
Yep, IN the bus!

reminds me of a dog.

Next, we wandered around the zoo, in the middle of the desert and saw some very African animals.  I have never been to close to a lion before.  I might have been a little nervous.  After a long hot day or seeing amazing animals, we headed home :)

So close!
